Learn More About Hosting
Irondequoit Garden Walks is a free, self-guided event where residents open their gardens for visitors to enjoy. Guests receive a printed and digital map and explore gardens throughout the community at their own pace.
- No entry fees
- No judging or competitions
- No formal tours required
- Visitors simply walk, bike or drive between gardens
Some hosts enjoy chatting with visitors about plants or gardening techniques, while others simply allow people to explore quietly. You can participate in whatever way feels comfortable for you.
Gardens of all sizes and styles participate in Irondequoit Garden Walks. Visitors enjoy seeing the diversity of gardens across our community — from small urban plantings to large landscaped spaces.
- Front yard gardens
- Backyard gardens
- Pollinator gardens
- Vegetable gardens
- Native plant gardens

- Gardens that are still evolving
Your garden does not need to be perfect. Many visitors enjoy seeing real gardens in progress and exchanging ideas with fellow gardeners.
- Be present in your garden during event hours
- Welcome visitors as they arrive
- Answer questions if you'd like
- Enjoy meeting neighbors and fellow gardeners
Some hosts simply greet visitors and allow them to explore. Others enjoy sharing stories about how their garden developed or offering plant recommendations. The experience can be as interactive or relaxed as you prefer.
The event is designed to be easy and enjoyable for hosts. Our goal is to celebrate gardening and community, not create additional work for participants.
Garden hosts consistently say the best part of the experience is meeting people who share a love of gardening. Visitors often bring curiosity, ideas, and enthusiasm that make the day rewarding for everyone involved.
- Connect with neighbors and fellow gardeners
- Share ideas and inspiration
- Celebrate the creativity of gardening
- Help strengthen the community
Many hosts tell us the event becomes one of the most enjoyable days they spend in their garden each year.
