Irondequoit Garden Walks is an opportunity for you to share Irondequoit at its best! The event is run by an enthusiastic group of volunteers, many of whom have gardens, some of whom do not. We even have some non-gardeners pitching in, so whatever your gardening skill level, we would love to have you!
Volunteers can help for as little as a couple of hours on Irondequoit Garden Walks Sunday, to serving on a team or taking on a leadership role. The time commitment varies, but activity is concentrated March through mid-July.
Volunteer Job Descriptions
Event Volunteers
The largest volunteer opportunity is staffing the Welcome Station during our event, the third weekend in July. At the Welcome Station, volunteers greet visitors, answer questions, and distribute map guides. We also need several volunteers in the days before and after the event to deliver materials and pick them up.
Garden Walks Teams
We actively recruit people for our teams throughout the year.
Whether you enjoy working with people, planning details, telling stories, or building systems, there are many ways to get involved:
- Event Planning Team: Works on the nuts and bolts of our annual event, ensuring all supplies are in place and everything runs smoothly.
- Garden Finders Team: Connects with neighbors and local gardeners to invite participation each year, helping expand the reach of the Garden Walk across the community.
- Marketing Team: Develops content for each season, helps share the story of the Garden Walk, and manages outreach through social media and other channels.
- Fundraising Team: Builds relationships with supporters and sponsors, coordinates outreach for ads and sponsorships, and assists with follow-ups and thank you communications.
- Technology & Digital Infrastructure Team: Supports the behind-the-scenes systems that keep Irondequoit Garden Walks running smoothly — including website updates, forms, data organization, and digital tools. This role is ideal for someone comfortable working with structured systems, troubleshooting, and improving processes. Experience with web platforms, data tools, or automation is especially helpful.
Garden Walks Leadership Team
All Committee Chairs or Co-Chairs are included in the Leadership Team and meet throughout the year to plan and implement the annual event the third weekend in July. Additional leadership positions include President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.
